SSE has scooped a prestigious Utility Week Achievement Award for an app that pinpoints UK power outages and updates customers.
The Power Track smart phone app maps the Scottish Hydro and Southern Electric Power Distribution areas and highlights any supply issues, the area affected, how long it will take for an engineer to arrive and what to do in the event of a power cut.
Launched earlier this year, the app is proving popular with customers and helps them keeps track of any disruption in their area without the need to call or monitor local media.
The gadget took the IT Initiative of the Year gong at the awards held in London. SSE was the only energy firm nominated in the category.
The Utility Week judges said the app was a fine example of how a utility company was using innovation to drive their services to customers.
Shaun Williams, Director of IT, said: “This recognition is appreciated, particularly for the team that developed the app and everyone involved in supporting the operational business.
“The beauty of Power Track is that when people are without power and unable to use either a computer or a landline, they are able to access up-to-the-minute information through their mobile.
“We’re committed to an open and honest dialogue with our customers and this innovative app is just one way we are leading the field which was recognised by Utility Week.”
