Keadby's Christmas Cheer

The spirit of Christmas is alive and well in Keadby - all thanks to our kind-hearted colleagues who have stepped in twice in recent weeks to help their community.

At the beginning of December flooding from the tidal surge devastated the Gunness and Burringham Church of England School, Lincolnshire, forcing it to close temporarily and cancel the planned festivities for its 100 pupils.

But Ed Willatts, who works in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and Embedded operations near to Keadby Power Station, had other plans.  He rallied a team of 12 colleagues to move everything that the pupils needed for their celebrations to the nearby Riddings Infant School.

As well as using their Community at Heart day for the relocation, the team made sure each child had a gift to enjoy at their re-arranged Christmas party.

Meanwhile, Father Christmas was having his own transport trouble just as his reindeer were gearing up for their all-night shift over Christmas Eve.

Each year, in the run up to Christmas, Santa’s sleigh tours each and every street in the Isle of Axholme area, with the vehicular pulling power provided by the Isle of Axholme Lions Society. But this year they were one vehicle down.

A request for help was put out and before long Keadby Wind Farm’s Community Liaison Officer, Jade Fearon, had arranged for Santa and his helpers to use a 4 x 4 and get their sleigh back on track.

Peter Lindley, President of the Isle of Axholme Lions, said: "We are very grateful for the generous contribution that the Keadby Wind Farm project has made.

“It has meant that we were able not only to hire the appropriate vehicle, but also to cover the running costs for this year’s event. We were even able to make some much needed maintenance to the sleigh!"
