SSE has marked a major milestone in its Keadby wind farm project with the installation of the last of the 34 turbines.

The 68MW wind farm will be England's largest onshore site once final commissioning works are completed in summer 2014.

Lead Project Manager David Sutton said “The project team have worked hard over the past few months to ensure that the construction process has been carried out on time and with minimum disruption to local residents.

“We appreciate the cooperation the local community has offered us during the construction process and will continue to work hard to maintain communications.”

The news follows SSE's recent increase in the Community Benefit Fund attached to the Keadby wind farm project. The increase means that community groups in the North Axholme area can benefit from a funding pot worth more than £4.2 million over the expected lifetime of the wind farm.

A second fund connected with the Keadby wind farm - the SSE Sustainable Development Fund - was also established in November in 2013. This fund will invite applications from community projects across North Lincolnshire and matches the SSE Keadby Community Fund in value. Details of this fund are currently being finalised and are expected to be announced during 2014.
