SSE’s Winter Safety Campaign kicked off last week to encourage employees to think about the increased risks they face in winter.
Cold weather and darker days mean more road accidents than other times of the year making it important that all drivers should plan ahead and take care when on the road.
The message was supported by video footage from Hampshire Constabulary’s Road Policing unit which showed some of the risks of not concentrating on the road.
Sergeant Paul Diamond from Hampshire Constabulary's Roads Policing unit said:
"We're happy to support SSE's winter campaign and hope that it helps convey the message that if you're distracted at the wheel you're putting yourself and other roads users at much increased risk of being involved in a serious or fatal collision.
"The footage from our five-day operation shows some incredible examples of offences including a lorry driver brushing his teeth, a woman doing her make-up and others using their mobile phones. The vast majority were holding phones in their lap and accessing applications or texting with their hands held low."
Dulce Trias of SSE said:
"Our campaign is aimed at broadening awareness of the many challenges and hazards winter poses especially during freezing temperatures. We trust that the information and videos provided to staff will help to reinforce the company's key safety messages.”
