Sir Robert Smith MP this week learned about Scottish Hydro Electric Power Distribution's apprentice scheme and met first year engineering apprentice Dale Campbell.
Dale, who previously attended Aboyne Academy, is currently studying at Perth College as well as spending time at the company’s Perth training centre, combining study with hands-on practical experience.
Sir Robert Smith, MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, said: "It was a good opportunity to learn more about SHE’s Power Distribution apprentice programme and meet one of their latest local recruits who expressed great enthusiasm for the job and I wish Dale a long and successful career in the energy industry. This programme will play a crucial role in ensuring the next generation has the skills to effectively maintain our electricity supply.”
SHEPD Operations Manager, Ken Miara said: “We appreciate the time Sir Robert has taken to visit with us and gain a better understanding of the training we provide to our apprentices. It is important that our staff team are trained to a high standard to allow us to provide a reliable and sustainable electricity supply to meet the needs for everyday life here in the North East."
Dale Campbell said: “Sir Robert was very interested in my apprenticeship and had lots of questions about how I was finding the experience. I am thoroughly enjoying my time with SSEPD. We have a good working atmosphere and although there is a lot to learn there are colleagues to help me. It was good that our MP was able to take the time to go out in the field and find out first-hand how important apprenticeships are for the future of our industry."
