Twelve carers from Cash for Kids-funded projects in Glasgow and the West of Scotland enjoyed a well deserved night out to see Rod Stewart at Scotland’s newest entertainment venue, thanks to SSE.

Kinship carers are grandparents, older siblings,  other family members or friends who care for vulnerable children who can no longer live with their parents.  They can often be needed to provide care and protection at very little notice and with limited support.

As part of SSE’s sponsorship of the SSE Hydro, it was able to provide the Kinship Carers with tickets to the brand new arena.

Gillian O’Reilly, SSE’s Head of Community Development, said: "Our sponsorship of The SSE Hydro enables us to offer our charity partners the opportunity to enjoy the venue and we are delighted that these ladies were one of the first to sample the experience direct from exclusive box seats."

Debbie Fraser from Radio Clyde Cash for Kids said: “This is a wonderful and kind gesture by our friends at SSE.  Kinship carers face difficulties every day because children can arrive with little or nothing and the responsibility of care passes immediately to them.”

Anne Swartz, Chair of The Scottish Kinship Care Alliance, said: “We can’t thank SSE and our friends at Radio Clyde Cash for Kids enough for our special night out with Rod Stewart.  He’s been the talk of the town for months so to be unexpectedly invited to see him perform made a huge difference to the kinship carers lucky enough to have been chosen. Although only twelve were picked it is important to remind everyone that there are many hundreds of kinship carers battling with poverty but caring for children all across the country.”
