Community at Heart volunteers from Airtricity ditched their desks this month, to get involved with the Irish Cancer Society’s October Get the Girls campaign, a fun way to get for the company’s guys and girls to get together and help reach the next groundbreaking breast cancer discovery.
Staff from the company’s New Customer Registrations department got to work packing pink ribbons and badges that will help raise vital funds and awareness this month for breast cancer research.
According to the Irish Cancer Society, Irish women have a 1 in 10 chance of developing breast cancer during their lifetime.
Anna McNally, Corporate Partnerships Administrator at the Society, said:
“We want to thank Airtricity so much for all the fantastic support the company’s staff have given us with ourGet the Girlscampaign. We really appreciate the support the Airtricity employees gave us and it means so much to have such a reliable bunch to organise the orders and prepare the campaign stock.”
Since 2011, SSE has been supporting charities through its Community at Heart initiative, which gives all staff the chance to swap their usual role for a day helping a non-profit organisation. Last year, more than 140 days were donated by Airtricity employees in support of the Irish Cancer Society alone.
Aoife Cormican, Airtricity Registrations Manager, commented:
“It is great that SSE/Airtricity provides this opportunity for employees to take part in Community at Heart as it allows them to support charities close to their hearts. I was delighted last year to have such a success rate with my team who continue to show commitment to achieving both company targets but also their own sense of fulfillment in taking part. I would encourage everyone to take this opportunity and use your day.”
