The SSE Hydro, Scotland’s new home of live entertainment, has brought the curtain down on a hugely successful opening week which saw over 80,000 music fans flock to seven events held in the brand new venue.

Rod Stewart was the very first act to headline the new arena, thrilling the sell-out crowds with a hit-filled set list for an impressive four nights.

Rod was full of praise for the opening night crowd, telling them that it was “humbling” to play the very first concert in the new venue, before kicking signed footballs out into to the ecstatic audience.

Rod said: “The band thought London, Leeds and Newcastle were good. I told them:  just wait til we get to Glasgow!”

The SSE Energisers were on-hand all week before and after each event, helping people find their seats, sheltering guests with umbrellas from their transport to the front door of the arena and guiding them to taxis and car parking after the event.

SSE customers who are registered on the new customer benefits service ssereward.com can apply to upgrade their ticket to gain entry into one of the exclusive lounges at the venue.

The SSE Green Room – a temporary lounge which was in place for SSE customers during opening week – was bouncing well after the gigs had finished. Guests at the best afterparty in town enjoyed singalongs to hits from the acts they had just seen, an interactive twitter water feature and the chance to appear as the star of their favourite act’s album cover.

Members of SSE Reward also received access to pre-sale tickets for three further shows at The SSE Hydro – Justin Timberlake, Fall Out Boy and Top Gear – and have already received pre-sale access to tickets for multi award-winning band Elbow.

The first week saw a pretty eclectic mix for the versatile venue, as Rod Stewart was followed by the Jesus Christ Superstar UK Tour, Fleetwood Mac and Bruno Mars.
