Southern Electric’s Amanda Duff is putting on her walking boots to help raise funds for the Hawk Conservancy Trust by taking part in a 10 mile hike.
The Hawk Conservancy Trust based in Andover is a conservation charity and award winning visitor centre that has for many years worked in the areas of conservation, education, rehabilitation and research of birds of prey.
Amanda who works as a resource adviser in Southern Electric’s Penner Road office and is a life member of the Trust said:
“I love animals and enjoy going to the Conservancy as much as I possibly can. The staff there help with rehabilitating wild birds, reintroducing birds whose numbers are threatened and help conserve birds both here and abroad which is vital to protecting the species.
“The hike I am taking part in will help raise funds for their bird of prey hospital which wouldn’t be able to remain open without the support from volunteers fundraising and donating their time.
“Each year through accident and emergency, the Trust receives and treats approximately 200 wild raptors brought in by members of the public, farmers, police, RSPCA, or other wildlife rescue organisations therefore the hospital is a much needed facility.”
The Hawk Conservancy Trust’s Chief Executive, Penny Smout said:
“We are most grateful to the sponsors, friends and supporters of the National Bird of Prey Hospital, without whose financial support the care of injured raptors would be compromised.
“We are also extremely grateful to the volunteers who assist with the running of the hospital, help maintain the aviaries, perform ‘ambulance’ duties by collecting injured birds, and participate in their releases.”
