SSE Metering employees recently turned a rundown space into a fabulous sensory garden – after a DIY SOS from some care home residents.
The work has provided the residents of Saddler’s Place care home,Walsall, a new herb and vegetable garden where they can practise their gardening skills.
Volunteers from the Metering Team in the Midlands spent the day painting and repairing fencing and garden furniture. Their work was supported by local suppliers who donated the materials necessary to create the gardens.
The project is part of SSE’s Community at Heart scheme where employees forego a normal working day to help worthwhile causes in the communities in which they live and work.
Team Manager Kevin Toms said: ‘We all felt rewarded by our teams first Community day- we arrived in the morning to an absolute jungle but were happy to leave behind a finished sensory garden.
“Getting to celebrate the success of the days efforts with family and friends of Saddler’s Place afterwards made all the hard work worthwhile.’
