An ‘Inflatable Day’ jump-started the school holidays in Dunstable, thanks to a little help from staff at SSE.
Despite the showery weather, the bouncing extravaganza on 29 July attracted around 200 local residents and got Dunstable Town Council’s four-week Summer Activities Programme off to a flying start.
The event featured a large bouncy castle, an inflatable slide and a bungee run, which children and their parents could enjoy for free.
Staff members from SSE’s Collections and Metering were able to take time out to ensure the event ran smoothly through SSE’s Community at Heart scheme, which gives members of staff a day away from the office every year to help worthwhile causes in the communities in which they live and work.
Trudie McManus, Warrant Officer at SSE, helped organise the event. She said: “I wanted to arrange something fun for the children of Dunstable and with my partner also lending the support of his inflatable company, ‘Pods Inflatables’, we were able to provide activities and refreshments for the community.
“It was a fantastic day for all the volunteers and so satisfying to see smiling faces and happy families. I would personally like to thank all the team members who helped on the day.”
Sandy Coyle, Community and Young Peoples Services Manager for Dunstable Town Council, said: “The event kicked off our summer programme which aims to provide a range of affordable or free activities and opportunities for children and young people aged 5 to 18.
“It was a great success and many parents and children expressed their thanks to the wonderful and professional SSE staff for providing this unforgettable day.”
