SSE is working with Perth and Kinross Council to provide free insulation to 159 homes and help them become more energy efficient.
The project, which kicks off in the Hillyland area of Perth, will see 119 council tenants and 40 owner-occupiers of the 50 year-old concrete buildings benefit from external insulation and rendering.
The project is part funded by the new Home Energy Efficiency Scotland - Area Based Schemes (HEEPS-ABS) programme provided by the Scottish Government as well as a contribution of £1.1m from SSE as part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO).
The Council and SSE will also be providing free or subsidised energy efficiency measures for other householders across Perth and Kinross, with timber framed houses in North Muirton set to also benefit later in the year.
Councillor Dave Doogan, who visited the scheme today to see the progress made, said: “This scheme is something that will be especially welcome in the current economic climate. It will provide people with warm homes, helping them to save money on heating and reduce their carbon footprint. The work will also improve the visual aspect of the buildings and so will benefit the wider community.
“We are very happy to be working in close partnership with one of our largest local employers, SSE, on this scheme. Their funding, knowledge and expertise are an invaluable part of the project.”
Dave McEvoy, SSE’s Area Development Manager for Scotland added: “SSE is delighted to be working in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council to deliver an energy efficient insulation scheme to so many residents of Hillyland. This is only the start of a relationship that will deliver significant investment through SSE to many areas of Perthshire.
“We are really pleased to improve local homes to a higher standard of energy efficiency, bringing this work into the city of Perth, the home of SSE, is a real win for everyone all round."
