Volunteers from Southern Electric Power Distribution (SEPD) swapped their hammers and pliers for paint brushes and ladders to give a Wiltshire social club a much needed spruce up.

Shipton Bellinger Social Club in Tidworth, which is a popular meeting place for local darts, snooker and football teams, was in need of some TLC, so 18 employees from SEPD’s Basingstoke depot spent the day painting and sprucing up the outside of the club.

The work was able to take place thanks to SEPD’s Community at Heart scheme, which is designed to get thousands of employees rolling up their sleeves and putting real energy into the communities in which they live and work.

With equipment they normally use for keeping the lights on, the SEPD team was able to get to all the hard-to-reach areas that were last painted over 15 years ago.

Richard Morris, the SEPD team manager said:  “Having been a member of the social club for a number of years, I was delighted to be able to bring my team down to give it a much needed lick of paint.

"As part of our normal working day we climb ladders and scaffolding to maintain the electricity network, so it was great to be able to put our skills to good use and make a difference to the local community”.

Ian Poulter, Club Treasurer, added: “The Committee and members of the club are most grateful for excellent work that was done, which has not only greatly enhanced the look of the club, it’s also extended the life of woodwork.”
