SSE Renewables successfully delivered the first turbine components to the Keadby wind farm site last week following months of enabling works in the area.
Preparatory work has included the building of the North Pilfrey Bridge and Hatfield Bridge, which has allowed all construction vehicles to avoid nearby local villages such as Keadby, Ealand, Eastoft and Crowle.
Each of the 34 Vestas turbines is manufactured in sections so that they can be transported to site easily and then assembled. The first turbine will be erected over the next few weeks and the wind farm is expected to generate its first energy in September 2013.
Deliveries of turbine components will continue Monday to Saturday until late November and will be timed to avoid main rush hour traffic.
SSE Lead Project Manager, David Sutton said: “We are delighted to reach this major milestone for the project and we are grateful for the patience and cooperation shown by the local community and other road users during the civil engineering works of the project.
"The completion of the new Hatfield Bridge has helped to improve the traffic flow and minimise disruption on the A18 as our deliveries take place.”
SSE continues to engage with local communities through a directly mailed newsletter which is sent to over 5000 homes in the surrounding area and also through regular Community Liaison Group (CLG) meetings.
