SSE staff member Sinead Morgan and her profoundly deaf brother Daniel have reached new heights in their bid to raise funds for the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.
In May of this year, the pair successfully took part in a challenging abseil down the 170-metre Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, which helped them towards their current total of £710 raised for the charity so far. And now they are planning to take part in the Great South Run in October for the same charity.
Sinead, a customer service adviser at SSE’s Penner Road office, said:
“We chose Hearing Dogs as my brother is deaf so it’s a charity close to our hearts. He has never needed a hearing dog as he had a Cochlear implant operation, however they only do a couple a year so we wanted to help raise money so anyone that is unable to have the operation can have a hearing dog to give them the independent lifestyle they deserve.
“A stall was set up by the charity next to the Spinnaker tower on the day of the abseil and the support we received was overwhelming. It made our day and helped us overcome our abseiling fears.”
Nicholas Orpin, Community Fundraising manager for the Hearing Dogs charity, added:
“The efforts made by Sinead and Daniel have been brilliant. Sinead organised a giant raffle and visit by Hearing Dogs to the SSE offices before completing the abseil down Spinnaker Tower.
“Sinead’s joint fundraising efforts with her brother have inspired many of her colleagues to donate. I’d like to pass on my thanks to everyone who has supported them.”
