SSE's annual general meeting was held today with shareholders asking the company's board and senior executives probing questions on subjects ranging from coastal erosion to corporate governance.

More than 120 shareholders attended the company's 15th AGM at Perth Concert Hall.

After the meeting, SSE Chairman Lord Smith of Kelvin said: "I think this year's AGM went very well.  A lot of the questions were really very thoughtful, about renewables, corporate governance and very technical questions around accounting that you don't usually get.

"The AGM is about being transparent about how you've performed during the year and answering shareholders' questions.  These are the people after all who own the company so you have to give them an opportunity to come along and question you.

He added: "Several things raised today will be followed up.  I'll be looking at some of the issues rasied quite critically to see what we should do."

All resolutions were passed with an overwhelming majority of shareholders' votes.
