Airtricity Utility Solutions run up €1500 contribution for SOSAD charity.
29 Jul 2013Nine employees from Airtricity Utility Solutions’ Athlone Depot have completed the Dundalk 5Km fun run, helping raise over €1,500 for the Save our Sons and Daughters charity (SOSAD).
SOSAD is a community organisation dedicated to helping all people who might be considering suicide, suffering from depression or bereaved by suicide. SOSAD in Dundalk helps around 120 people every week and Airtricity Utility Solutions contribution will go towards helping provide extra care and support for families and patients who visit the centre.
Declan Kerr, Airtricity Utility Solutions, Athlone Depot Manager commented:
“It’s fantastic to be able to give something back to a group who are so active in the local community. There was a great turn out on the day, with over 600 people taking part in run. All the lads gave 100% during the race and we’re really grateful for everyone that helped us raise over €1500.”
Under its 'Community at Heart' employee volunteering scheme, SSE gives all its staff the opportunity to take a day off from their usual work programme and swap it for a day working with a not-for-profit organisation or group of their choice.
In 2012, staff from Airtricity, SSE Renewables, SSE Generation and Airtricity Utility Solutions worked with over 35 different charities or community groups, including Barnardos, Laura Lynn House, the Irish Cancer Society, Barretstown, the ISPCA and Temple Street Hospital, donating more than 3,000 hours of their time.read
