With a vehicle fleet of more than 20 meter reading and operations vehicles currently travelling on the roads across Northern Ireland, Airtricity has pledged to support the Northern Ireland Department of Environment’s Share the Road to Zero safety campaign.
Share the Road to Zero, is a community programme launched by the DoE, encouraging everyone in Northern Ireland, including businesses, government and community groups to sign up to a path towards zero deaths on Northern Ireland’s roads by pledging to use the roads safely.
Brídín Beckett from DoE Road Safety commented: “In 2012 the number of road deaths in Northern Ireland reached its lowest level since records began in 1931. However, 48 people lost their lives and 48 families were devastated. Already this year 28 people have died and every one of those road deaths is one too many.
Mrs Beckett added: “As an energy provider to both domestic and business customers, Airtricity has a high profile in our local community. This means that its support for the Share the Road to Zero campaign will contribute to saving lives and help bring us closer to achieving zero road deaths in Northern Ireland.”
Airtricity’s Managing Director, Stephen Wheeler, commented “Safety is one of our core business values, and the importance of road safety is a message that we promote to all our staff on a regular basis. We’re delighted to commit to the DoE’s campaign and I’m confident this campaign will help to bring road safety to the forefront of the public minds.”
