Green Deal helpline opens

We’ve taken a big step forward as a Green Deal provider with the opening of our customer help lines. Our energy supply brands of Southern Electric, Scottish Hydro, SWALEC, Atlantic and SSE are all now discussing Green Deal with customers.

Green Deal helps customers make home improvements, like a new boiler or loft or solid wall insulation, that improve the energy efficiency of their homes without paying large upfront costs.

Millions of homes across the UK are in a condition that would benefit from the installation of energy saving improvements which in turn would reduce their electricity and gas usage, reduce carbon emissions and result in warmer, more efficient homes.

The Green Deal with SSE allows customers to effectively take out a loan to cover some or all of the costs of carrying out such improvements and to pay back the cost in instalments through their electricity bill. One key benefit is that customers will never pay more in their repayments than the expected savings on their gas or electric bill as a result of having the measures installed. That means customers should be no worse off financially, even after having all the energy efficiency improvements work finalised.
