The energy staff, from Southern Electric’s customer service centre in Havant, turned into painters and decorators for two days to transform three rooms at Buckland Community Centre in Portsmouth.
The halls were in need of a little TLC and were given a nice lift with a brighter cream covering, including the main hall, used as a dance studio by one of its most regular users, the Abstract Dance and Performing Arts group.
Southern Electric volunteer, Dawn Mitchell, said: “My daughter, Amber Leigh, runs dance classes at this centre and she mentioned that the hall would benefit from a bit of freshening up, so we were able to provide the help the centre needed through our company’s Community at Heart volunteering scheme
“We thoroughly enjoyed brightening up the dance hall and we then had time to do two extra rooms so other groups using the community centre can also benefit from the room makeovers.”
Community centre manager, Angela Rock, said: “The team of volunteers was brilliant. They worked their socks off to ensure that all the rooms were completed in the time they had, and they cleared up behind them. We supplied all the equipment and tea and coffee just to keep them going!
“All our user groups have commented on how nice and bright the rooms are looking, so we’d like to thank everyone who took part in the project.”
