Balmacaan wind farm
SSE Renewables, the renewable development division of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), has submitted planning applications to The Highland Council for the erection of a further two meteorological masts on a site at Balmacaan, situated on the north side of Loch Ness.
Planning applications were submitted for the installation of two met masts in August 2009. One of these met masts was installed towards the end of 2009, but the other was never erected and will no longer be required. As a result of the information gathered to date we wish to erect a further two masts at different locations on the site. If approved this will give us three masts that will gather meteorological data over the course of the next 36 months and this information will help us to assess conditions and determine whether this is a suitable site for developing a wind farm proposal.
Over the coming months we will continue to gather data through further environmental investigations at the site. We hope to hold local public exhibitions in the Autumn of 2010 in order to give details of the information gathered from the environmental investigations undertaken so far and to inform the community of plans for developing the proposal further in the future.
