Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has reached the nine million energy customer mark for the first time. This comprises 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers.

Scottish and Southern Energy plc (“SSE”) has acquired 17.5% of the equity in RockTron (Widnes) Ltd, the developer of the new plant to extract minerals from ash being constructed at its Fiddler’s Ferry power station in Cheshire, for a total cash consideration of £10m.

Further to its financial report, published on 12 November 2008, Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has now completed the agreement with the relevant banks to extend by one year, to 30 June 2010, €600m (£500m) of its Airtricity-related facility.

Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has successfully generated for the first time the maximum 100MW of electricity for a full 24-hour period at its new Glendoe hydro electric scheme near Loch Ness.

Scottish and Southern Energy plc (“SSE”) is applying to the Environment Agency for what should be the final extension of its existing derogations under Article 5 (1) of the Large Combustion Plant Directive, in respect of Fiddler’s Ferry and Ferrybridge power stations.

SSE has today released its Financial Report for the Six Months to 30 September 2008. Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of Scottish and Southern Energy, said: "As expected, these interim results demonstrate the unusual and exceptional circumstances that can apply to performance in a half-year. They are, however, still consistent with delivering a modest increase in adjusted profit before tax for 2008/09, which remains our expectation on the basis of good performance for the rest of the year." Scottish and Southern Energy plc (“SSE”) has agreed to sell 50% of the equity in Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Limited (“GGOWL”) to npower renewables, the UK fully owned subsidiary of RWE Innogy. RWE Innogy will also reimburse SSE for 50% of the capital costs already incurred in developing the project. The total cash consideration of the transaction is £308 million.

Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Limited (SHETL), a subsidiary of Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), has today submitted applications to the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, the Highland Council, Scottish Ministers and other statutory authorities  to develop an electricity transmission connection between the Western Isles and the north west of Scotland.

Marks & Spencer announces today a partnership with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) to launch M&S Energy. M&S Energy will supply electricity and gas to domestic customers and reward them with M&S store vouchers for helping the environment by reducing their energy usage. Customers will also receive M&S vouchers on signing-up and on anniversaries in recognition of their loyalty.
