NEW CONSULTATION ON POSSIBLE ELECTRICITY TRANSMISSION LINE FOR WESTERN ISLES
Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission Limited (SHETL), a subsidiary of
Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), has published a new consultation document on
the possible development of a new high voltage electricity transmission line
capable of accommodating power from possible renewable energy developments on
the Western Isles and to connect this to the existing mainland transmission
network at Beauly.

INTERIM RESULTS FOR THE SIX MONTHS TO 30 SEPTEMBER 2006
Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE) has delivered another very strong financial and operational performance, with the gain of one million customers in the past 12 months being particularly significant. Our ongoing focus on the operational issues that matter to our customers, and the continuing returns from the significant investments we have made over the past few years, have delivered substantial increases in profit before tax and in the interim dividend. This, in turn, puts us in a position to implement our major programme of investment in the future, which will contribute significantly to the achievement of the UK’s goal of more reliable and lower carbon energy supplies.

PROPOSAL TO ENTER WATER SECTOR FOR FIRST TIME
Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has decided to make a formal
application to Ofwat for ‘Inset Appointments’ which would allow it to install,
own and operate water and wastewater services for end user customers for the
first time.

ABOLITION OF ELECTRICITY PRE-PAYMENT TARIFF SURCHARGE
Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has decided to abolish the extra
charge levied on all of its electricity (pay as you go) or pre-payment tariffs
in England and Wales compared with its standard credit tariffs.

INVESTMENT IN ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES INSTITUTE
Scottish and Southern Energy plc ("SSE") has agreed to become a partner in
the new Energy Technologies Institute, the details of which have been announced
by the Chancellor of the Exchequer. It will provide the Institute with up to
£2.5m a year for five years.

AWARD OF £5M CONTRACT TO EASTERN CONTRACTING
Eastern Contracting, the operation acquired by Scottish and Southern Energy
plc ("SSE") in 2005 in a transaction worth around £2m, has won the second phase
of an infrastructure contract at Colchester Garrison worth almost £5m. Eastern
Contracting is a fully-integrated part of SSE’s Contracting Group.

NEW INVESTMENT IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY
Scottish and Southern Energy has decided to undertake an additional 50,000
home insulation measures, with over half being installed in ‘priority’ homes, by
the end of 2007.
