Community benefit

We recognise that our investments in new electricity generation benefit from the co-operation of the local community in a variety of ways, particularly during the construction phase. In recognition of this, our policy is to establish long-term funds to support community projects in areas where we are developing generation projects.

  • Project information

SSE Renewables (SSER) has consent to construct the 10 turbine Langhope Rig wind farm in the Scottish Borders. The site is located approximately 5km west of Ashkirk and 4km south east of Ettrickbridge. The turbines will each have a maximum generating capacity of up to 2.3MW and a maximum tip height of up to 121.2m.

Due to various factors, the commencement of construction for Langhope Rig wind farm has had to be put back and unfortunately a new date is still to be confirmed. We are continuing to finalise the pre-construction works for the site. These works include agreeing and finalising the grid connection route. In an effort to bring this process to a conclusion, Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution (SSEPD) have taken over the management of the design and construction of the grid connection from Scottish Power Distribution. We are also working hard to identify the best turbine for the site in order to optimise the output from the wind resource.

The construction of this site will take approximately 12 - 14 months. Once complete, Langhope Rig will generate enough renewable electricity to power over 18,000 homes.
