Supply
SSE supplies electricity and gas and related services to around 10 million customer accounts in markets in Great Britain and Ireland. The supply of electricity and gas in the UK is a competitive industry, and customers have a choice to switch between suppliers and tariffs.
Our role is to deliver the electricity and gas our customers need, arrange for it to be distributed to them through the relevant networks, provide services such as metering and billing and promote efficient use of energy.
Increasing the efficient use of energy, thereby reducing the overall demand for it, has been a primary goal of Government policy in recent years. There have been a number of developments in the policies on improving energy efficiency; smart meters; and providing additional information on energy bills.
In addition the Government has been looking at ways to help customers who are struggling to pay their energy bills, and has introduced a Fuel Poverty programme. We recognises our role in helping our customers who struggle to pay for their basic energy needs. We are always looking at ways we can help low-income customers who experience difficulties in meeting their energy costs. Insufficient income may be the fundamental reason why people struggle to pay their bills, but we know we have a part to play in helping them to ease their situation.
