  • Serving our communities

At SSE our primary role is to deliver energy and energy-related services to the homes and the business of around 10 million customers. We won’t compromise our commitment to safety, sustainability and the environment. Nor will we turn our backs on the local communities in which we live and work.

We feel passionately that we treat our employees and customers like family and take our pledge to be ‘a good neighbour’ very seriously. We work with community partners to provide practical subsidised energy efficiency resources and advice.

Our core values reflect our beliefs as does our community programme which supports specialist teams of people who are on hand to:

    • provide support for vulnerable members of the community through our warm home discount
    • support projects that benefit the communities which host our wind farms,
    • provide important energy efficiency advice
    • support community projects through our employee supported volunteering initiative called Community at Heart. We have worked with around 1000 community groups all over the UK in this way.
    • mentor young people as part of our Barnardo's Works' partnership. This project gives unemployed young people aged 16 to 24 the opportunity to gain comprehensive waged work experience and skills that will be valuable in securing future employment.
    • provide work experience placements for young people.
    • visit schools to help youngsters’ understand about energy and how to be safe.
    • provide 75 sports clubs a year from all over the UK with top of the range kits
    • give financial assistance to residents wanting to connect to the electricity network in rural areas of Scotland.
