Energy Bill must deliver an attractive investment climate for UK renewables

A broad coalition of energy companies have written to Edward Davey Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change outlining real concerns about the Government's proposed 'Contracts for Difference' CFD proposal for subsidising new low carbon investments.

SSE 2012 Full Year Results Statement

Lord Smith of Kelvin, Chairman of SSE said: "SSE has again delivered increases in the full-year dividend and in adjusted profit before tax demonstrates the resilience inherent in its balanced model of market-based and economically-regulated businesses, and the robustness of its strategy of focusing on operations and investment in each of those businesses."

    The first turbine at Clyde wind farm in South Lanarkshire is energised and exports electricity to the national grid for the first time.

    SSE takes first steps into the upstream gas sector and acquires North Sea natural gas assets and infrastructure from Hess Limited.

    Greater Gabbard and Walney offshore wind farms generated electricity for the first time.

    SSE, GDF Suez and Iberdrola announced their joint venture nuclear company - given the name NuGeneration Ltd.

    July

    SSE announced new partnership with Mitsubishi to develop low carbon technologies.

    SSE and nPower secure rights to develop 500MW Galloper wind farm off the coast of Suffolk.

    April

    SSE purchased a 15% stake Burntisland Fabrications Ltd, a manufacturer of offshore structures for the energy industry.

    March

    SSE awarded exclusive rights to develop 400MW of wave and tidal energy in Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters and a further 400MW with partners Aquamarine and OpenHydro.

    SSE Telecommunications entered into an agreement to acquire the ATLAS Connect fibre telecommunications network spanning six business parks across Scotland.

    January

    Scottish ministers granted consent, with associated conditions, to install a 4000,000 volt overhead transmission line and replace an existing 132,000 line between Beauly, near Inverness and Wharry Burn, near Stirling.

    Acquisition of stake in Walney Offshore Wind Farm, 14km west of the Isle of Walney in the Irish Sea.

    Joint venture, Marchwood CCGT Power Station opens. The UK's first large-scale new CCGT power station to enter commercial operation for five years.
