Serving our communities
We have over 20,000 employees working in communities the length and breadth of Great Britain. Our first commitment is to ensure energy supplies are safe and reliable. In other words, our job is to keep the lights on by safely delivering energy and energy-related services to around 10 million customers.
But we also provide real, practical support which we hope will bring lasting benefit to communities in a number of other ways.
The help we offer includes:
- encouraging our employees to take time off to do voluntary work in their community;
- supporting projects to benefit communities which host our wind farms;
- giving priority to vulnerable members of the community;
- providing subsidised energy efficiency measures to customers;
- giving financial assistance to residents wanting to connect to the electricity network in rural Scotland for the first time;
- free visitors' facilities in Christchurch, Pitlochry and Fiddler's Ferry;
- educational partnerships
